AHA Exfoliation 101: How Often Should You Really Use It?

What Is AHA, Exactly?

AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) is a category of water-soluble acids used in skincare to help loosen the bonds between dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. As those cells lift away, skin can look smoother and brighter, and pores can appear less congested.

How Often Should You Use It?

This is where most people get it wrong. AHA is not a daily-use ingredient for most skin types. Overusing it can leave skin feeling sensitive, tight, or irritated instead of smooth. A good starting point is 2-3 times a week, adjusting based on how your skin responds.

Why SPF Isn't Optional

Because AHA works by encouraging surface cell turnover, it can make skin more sensitive to the sun. If you're using an AHA product like our Peel Shotp AHA Rice Exfoliating Ampoule, daily SPF during the day isn't optional — it's part of the routine.

Getting Started

If you're new to AHA, start slow: once or twice a week for the first couple of weeks, then build up to 2-3 times a week if your skin tolerates it well. Apply with a cotton pad or fingertips on clean, dry skin, avoiding the eye area, and always follow up with moisturizer.
